Managing your Energy Part 1 – Physicality

In a world where we are so concerned with time I would like us to turn our thoughts to our energy. I hear all too often from customers, team members, friends and family that ‘I just don’t have time’ but everyone has the same 24 hours in a day and it is how we choose to spend that time that will either progress us closer to our goals or push us further away. How we spend our time will also have an effect on our energy, and the more energy we have the more we can spend it on the things that really matter to us.

I am going to discuss 4 areas of life where you can apply focus to help you to improve your energy. This blog will focus on physicality, the following ones will focus on emotional energy, mental energy and spiritual energy.

How are you feeling physically? Do you get sick often, wake up tired, feel sore, get stomach pains and headaches or just generally feel bleh? It is not normally to feel those things! We have been fed some bullshit that tells us its normal to pop paracetamol every few days, to take naps everyday or do find it hard to get out of bed each morning. I am here to tell you this is all rubbish! You are designed to feel amazing, you are meant to have vitality and energy to live the life of your dreams. Not to compromise on what you want to do because your joints hurt and you have back pain! There are 3 things I want you to draw focus to in order to improve your physical energy, nutrition, sleep and movement. Each is discussed below as well as essential oils that I use to help support these areas. I will mention that correct supplementation will improve all areas, I choose to take doTERRA Life Long Vitality and they have been an absolute game changer for me! Seek professional advise from a Integrative Doctor or Naturopath if you are unsure what you need.

Nutrition – We underestimate the power of food to change how we feel. The food we eat can increase inflammation which is the cause of most disease in the body. On the flip side it can also decrease inflammation and cause a feeling of energy and vitality, pretty cool hey! You don’t have to go vegan, keto, paleo or follow whatever the latest fad diet is to be healthy. In the simplest terms you need to eat a wholefood diet. Increase your fruit and veg, drink more water and avoid processed foods where possible. Try thinking about what you can add in rather than what you have to remove and start slow. Make incremental changes that can be sustained for your life rather than a 6 week fad that teaches you nothing. Start by changing out one meal or one snack until it feels normal and then change the next. If it takes 12 months who cares!
Essential Oils to try: Lemon or another citrus oil in your water, Slim and Sassy diffused or in smoothies and Digestzen to help with digestive issues.

Sleep – Getting adequate sleep is so important to our energy. I will go one step further than that and say that adequate sleep is not enough, it must be quality sleep. You need to work out how many hours you personally need and then put boundaries in place to ensure that happens. Work backwards from the time you need to wake up and decide what time you need to be asleep by. Then ensure that you have a great consistent bedtime routine that allows you to be ready for sleep at that time. Things like not eating right before sleep, no screen time, a calming drink, bath, essential oils, time with your partner, kids sleep time and anything else that might effect the quality of your sleep. Treat your sleep as importantly as you treat getting to work on time or eating dinner, it is not something you should neglect. Don’t get less sleep to spend more time on the things you need to get done as you will end up depleting your energy and not being able to complete any task in life effectively.
Essential Oils to try: Diffused at night a combination of Lavender, Ceadarwood, Vetiver, Juniper Berry, Roman Chamomile, Lavender Peace, Easy Air or Frankincense. Try creating a roller of with any of the aforementioned oils and roll on soles of feel and down spine before bed.

Movement – I know it sounds counter intuitive but the more exercise you do the more energy you will have. Exercise releases endorphins that make us feel good, energetic and ready to tackle the world. Getting our bodies strong assists in keeping us healthy and free from pain and illness. The most important thing is finding movement that you love to do and not as a punishment. It might be a team sport, walking, swimming, yoga, cross fit, weights, running, Pilates or anything that gets you body moving everyday. I love to play Netball and walk. Walking clears my head, gives me time to listen to podcasts or be with friends. It also doesn’t have to cost anything, get out in nature, put on a YouTube exercise video, run around with your kids or put on some music and commit to a 30min dance party. Whatever your do, do it because you love your body and you want to reward it for carrying you through life.
Essential Oils to try: Peppermint inhaled for pre-workout boost. Ice Blue and Copiaba for recovery. Motivate to get you going when you are not feeling up to it.

You have to create daily habits that are not reliant on motivation as it will fade. We can be really motivated to take action for the first week or so but when we start to lack motivation we give up. You have to know why you are making changes and keep it running through your head. Have will power that is so strongly connected to your why that you don’t need motivation.
