Managing your Energy Part 2 – Emotions

In part 1 we looked at how our physical health can be a driver of energy. When we eat well, drink plenty of water, exercise daily and get plenty of sleep our energy stores will be high. Today I am going to discuss with you how our emotions can impact on our energy. Actually many people argue that most of our energy comes from emotional energy. Its more that just feeling happy but rather feeling passionate, having purpose and having a heart that is not only happy but filled with a spirit of hope.

When we feel emotionally drained it is hard to be able to focus and feel motivated to complete daily tasks. It creates habits of procrastination, whinging, sadness and general lethargy. This is a common complaint from the everyday person, actually Mira Kirshenbaum states in her book ‘The Emotional Energy Factor’ that 1 in 8 adults is in a low energy state. As a society we have become a group of people that work to live rather than following passion, love and happiness. We have seen a dramatic increase in depression rates and general un happiness over the past decade. People feel overworked, underappreciated, constantly connected and torn in all directions.

So how do we get and then protect our emotional energy?

Thoughts
The way we think and perceive situations can have a drastic impact on our emotional energy. I don’t want to suggest that you should always think positive or ignore unpleasant emotions but you have to find a way to move through them. When you are feeling angry or sad find a way to feel that emotion, thank it for bringing something to your attention and then learn how to let it go. Easier said than done though right! Here are some of my suggestions for working through emotions:
Move your body! This may be in the form of weights, running, going for a walk, putting on some epic music and dancing around, yoga, Pilates, boxing, team sport or anything that gets your physical body moving. Movement is one of the best ways to increase endorphins, it also helps to clear the mind, move emotions through your body and get rid of any unwanted negative energy
Practice gratitude everyday! Everyone has something to be grateful for, i’m not talking about the big stuff like a roof over your head and healthy kids, i’m talking about the little daily things. The warm sun in the morning, a cute dog to got to pat, a coworker buying you a coffee, a yummy snack you ate, looking smoking hot in your daily outfit of choice, your eyeliner going on perfectly, getting a good parking spot ect. If you can find at least 10 little things everyday that you are thankful for I promise you your mindset will start to change. If you make yourself write down 10 things either every morning or every night before bed you will start to look for things all day. All of a sudden you are thinking about where you see the good things rather than focusing on the negative.
Focus on your passion and your why (more on this below)
Talk to friends and family – don’t bottle it all up. If you have no one you feel comfortable to talk with then hire someone. Get a life coach or business coach, see a psychologist or a councilor, find a mothers group or women’s circle. Just talk to some honey because bottling it up or pretending you are fine will not help.
Let it go! Other peoples thoughts and feelings are not yours and you have to be able to listen and then separate. If my son is angry and has a meltdown that doesn’t have to effect my emotions. But up boundaries around you to protect your energy. No one is getting through this field of mine that I have built. On that topic it is also important to remember that peoples thoughts about you are none of your business! If someone thinking poorly of you or thinks you are amazing its none of your business and shouldn’t effect how you manage your own emotional energy.
Breathe! Breath work is amazing at helping you calm your nervous system and managing emotions. YouTube breathe work and you will fins some great videos to help you through the process.
Essential Oils have an amazing capacity to help change our state or allow us to feel what we want to feel. I use the emotional aromatherapy range from doTERRA as well as floral oils such as rose, jasmine, neroli and magnolia. Use as a pure-fume or roll on the soles of your feet and down the spine. I lather the oils all over my body every morning to make me feel amazing both inside and out! If you want more information on how to use essential oils for emotions drop me a line.

Boundaries
This is a difficult topic to discuss as everyone will have a different set of boundaries depending on what they value and find important. For me I have strict boundaries in place around night time routine with my kids, I really value time in the evening with my husband so my kids at in bed, and normally asleep by 7pm. We don’t go out at night during the week, if a family member is having a birthday dinner on a Wednesday night we don’t go. If my husband and I don’t have time together then our relationship is not as strong and I can’t be the best mum, friend, sister or daughter. I also read my book every night before bed, sometimes 20 pages and sometimes 1 but I always pick it up and read. Self development is super important to me and reading helps me get to my next level so I always find the time.
So what do you value? What is non-negotiable for you? Find them, write them and then put things in place and stick to it. Is it about the food you eat, exercise time, work time, play with your kids, budget related, routine, family time, phone time ect. Your boundaries need to be communicated with the people around you. Discuss them with your partner, your kids, parent, siblings, workmates or your boss. When you are clear with others it is easier to maintain strong boundaries.
You may also have emotional boundaries including the people you allow into your life. If you have friends or family that every time you see, you leave feeling crappy then stop seeing them. You could choose to have a conversation with them about what you no longer wish to hear about or discuss if you know what is effecting your energy. I now only choose to surround myself with high vibe people, if I don’t leave feeling energised then it was not worth my time. There are obviously exceptions to this, I can still be a good friend and help people in need or be a friendly ear just not if that is every time we see each other. Choose your tribe wisely as you become like the people you hang out with.

Passion and Love
Have a purpose and a why! Know why you are doing what you are doing. Don’t go through life just going through the motions and then being angry about it. Why do you go to your current job? Do you love it? Is it a passion or something you find value in? I understand that no one is every going to love their job everyday but as a whole you have to like what you do or you will spend a lot of time feeling low on energy. Do you only do it for the money or because the hours are good? You either need to find things about your job that you appreciate and like and focus on those or change! I am not joking here, I get a lot of people are reading this thinking “it’s not that easy, I can’t, I don’t have any other skills, I need the money, I have to support my kids, no one will hire me, there are no other jobs” – I CALL BULLSHIT ON IT ALL!!! Make it work! Do the extra study, start the hide hustle that will turn into a full time income, go to companies and sell yourself and your skills, do the work! The more you sit in misery and in the pity party about how your life is crap the more it will become crap. We get back from the universe what we put out! So go out and show the universe what you’ve got!

When you feel good you have more energy, so do the things that make you feel good and protect your energetic boundaries.

Immune System

Our Immune Systems are our biggest asset or our greatest downfall. As Autumn sets in and winter is approaching it is important to be ready for this change in season.

Things that compromise your immune system:
Eating additives and preservatives
Eating a diet high in sugar and processed food and drink
Not enough sleep or poor quality sleep
Lack of movement and exercise
Prolonged periods of stress
Depression
Medications including over the counter pain relief
Chemical and toxic overload including garden sprays, cleaning products, personal care products and fragrance
Alcohol, smoking and other drug substances

Things that can strengthen your immune system
Eating a whole food diet full of organic fruit and vegetables
Drinking AT LEAST 2 litres of water a day
Moving your body every day through intense or light exercise
Meditation, stillness or time away from everything – this could be as little as 5min a day
Quality sleep. Remembering the highest quality sleep you have is before midnight
Reducing stress (more information on this below)
Take high-quality supplements (as directed by your health care professional)
Clean your hands regularly and use a chemical-free hand sanitiser
Reduce your body’s toxic load by changing cleaning products to essential oil-based products, replacing your personal care products with a more natural option and using essential oils to naturally scent your home rather than fake fragrance.

Stress
Prolonged periods of intense stress can affect the immune system, according to the National Cancer Institute. When we are stressed we create a hormone in the brain called cortisol. Cortisol can impair the T-Cells from fighting off infection. This is why we often end up getting sick when we are stressed and feeling run down. It is of the utmost importance to reduce stress in your life where you can. The best thing you can do for stress is nutrition, water intake and sleep but below are some other suggestions.

Some suggestions for reducing stress:
– Confiding in friends and family
– Leaning on friends and family to support you when you are feeling overwhelmed
– Ask for help! This is not something that comes easily to a lot of people as we want to be seen to be able to do everything on ow\ur own. This is especially the fact for mums who are trying to juggle all the things. People want to help you and you are actually empowering other people by allowing them to assist you. Ask another mum to look after your kids for a few hours, hire a cleaner, plan meals that only take 15min to put together, get kids to make their own beds, tell your partner you need help with something, explain to your boss you can’t make that deadline. It is ok to ask for help! People will not think less of you and if they do they are absolutely not worth worrying about.
– Meditate or at least find moments in your day when you can be still and have no distractions to just being alone with your own thoughts
– Practice breathe work, there are heaps of great YouTube videos for this.
– Journal and find gratitude in every day. Focus on the positives rather than the negatives, what do you have to be grateful for? Try to write down 10 things every day.
– Use essential oils to work through your emotions
– Seek help from a medical professional, get your blood work done to check vitamin and mineral levels. I have an excellent naturopath that gives me the correct dose of vitamins for my needs and body.
– Use all the alternative natural health modalities that you can. Acupuncture, reiki, chiropractic, remedial massage, naturopathy, myopathy or anything else that you are drawn to. These are more natural than traditional medical care and you may just find it works for you.
– Stop doing all the things. Actually, just stop, the world will not fall apart if you spend a couple of days resting and working out what can go and what has to stay.
– Find something you love doing. I love being with my husband, I love going to women’s circle, I love my work in the world, I love hanging with my kids, I love catching up with friends for a walk or a coffee. These things keep me going and offer a reprieve in times of stress.

Essential Oils that I use:
On Guard: I use this in the diffuser, clean with it, roll in on myself and my kids and use the on guard hand sanitiser. This product is a combination of oils known as the protective blend.
Oregano: A powerhouse when it comes to our bodies. I suggest you do some googling on this oil! Rolled on soles of your feet.
Rose: The queen of oils and the oil of love. Do some research!
Emotional essential oils such as peace, cheer, motivate, forgive, passion and console. These do exactly as each name suggests. Depending on what you are feeling or want to feel will depend on what oil you gravitate to. You can diffuse these or rollover your spine, chest and wrists when diluted.
Neroli, Jasmine and Magnolia: The floral oils are powerhouses when it comes to protecting our hearts and our space from stress and outside influence. I roll them over my chest, down my spine and wrists.
Lemon: I use lemon for cleaning down surfaces, in my water and diffused to detoxify the air.

Supplementation I choose to take (as directed by my health care professional)
A full dose of doTERRA Life-Long Vitality every day
Ethical Nutrients Vitamin C and Zinc powder in my water daily
doTERRA Mito2Max if I am feeling low on energy
Metagenics Probiotics

Your immune system is your greatest defense. I hope you will implement some of these strategies and remember if you don’t yet have essential oils head to the ‘purchase oils’ tab to get started. If you are unsure what you want/need then send me a message and I will be in contact.

I hope everyone is staying well 🙂

Managing your Energy Part 1 – Physicality

In a world where we are so concerned with time I would like us to turn our thoughts to our energy. I hear all too often from customers, team members, friends and family that ‘I just don’t have time’ but everyone has the same 24 hours in a day and it is how we choose to spend that time that will either progress us closer to our goals or push us further away. How we spend our time will also have an effect on our energy, and the more energy we have the more we can spend it on the things that really matter to us.

I am going to discuss 4 areas of life where you can apply focus to help you to improve your energy. This blog will focus on physicality, the following ones will focus on emotional energy, mental energy and spiritual energy.

Physicality
How are you feeling physically? Do you get sick often, wake up tired, feel sore, get stomach pains and headaches or just generally feel bleh? It is not normally to feel those things! We have been fed some bullshit that tells us its normal to pop paracetamol every few days, to take naps everyday or do find it hard to get out of bed each morning. I am here to tell you this is all rubbish! You are designed to feel amazing, you are meant to have vitality and energy to live the life of your dreams. Not to compromise on what you want to do because your joints hurt and you have back pain! There are 3 things I want you to draw focus to in order to improve your physical energy, nutrition, sleep and movement. Each is discussed below as well as essential oils that I use to help support these areas. I will mention that correct supplementation will improve all areas, I choose to take doTERRA Life Long Vitality and they have been an absolute game changer for me! Seek professional advise from a Integrative Doctor or Naturopath if you are unsure what you need.

Nutrition – We underestimate the power of food to change how we feel. The food we eat can increase inflammation which is the cause of most disease in the body. On the flip side it can also decrease inflammation and cause a feeling of energy and vitality, pretty cool hey! You don’t have to go vegan, keto, paleo or follow whatever the latest fad diet is to be healthy. In the simplest terms you need to eat a wholefood diet. Increase your fruit and veg, drink more water and avoid processed foods where possible. Try thinking about what you can add in rather than what you have to remove and start slow. Make incremental changes that can be sustained for your life rather than a 6 week fad that teaches you nothing. Start by changing out one meal or one snack until it feels normal and then change the next. If it takes 12 months who cares!
Essential Oils to try: Lemon or another citrus oil in your water, Slim and Sassy diffused or in smoothies and Digestzen to help with digestive issues.

Sleep – Getting adequate sleep is so important to our energy. I will go one step further than that and say that adequate sleep is not enough, it must be quality sleep. You need to work out how many hours you personally need and then put boundaries in place to ensure that happens. Work backwards from the time you need to wake up and decide what time you need to be asleep by. Then ensure that you have a great consistent bedtime routine that allows you to be ready for sleep at that time. Things like not eating right before sleep, no screen time, a calming drink, bath, essential oils, time with your partner, kids sleep time and anything else that might effect the quality of your sleep. Treat your sleep as importantly as you treat getting to work on time or eating dinner, it is not something you should neglect. Don’t get less sleep to spend more time on the things you need to get done as you will end up depleting your energy and not being able to complete any task in life effectively.
Essential Oils to try: Diffused at night a combination of Lavender, Ceadarwood, Vetiver, Juniper Berry, Roman Chamomile, Lavender Peace, Easy Air or Frankincense. Try creating a roller of with any of the aforementioned oils and roll on soles of feel and down spine before bed.

Movement – I know it sounds counter intuitive but the more exercise you do the more energy you will have. Exercise releases endorphins that make us feel good, energetic and ready to tackle the world. Getting our bodies strong assists in keeping us healthy and free from pain and illness. The most important thing is finding movement that you love to do and not as a punishment. It might be a team sport, walking, swimming, yoga, cross fit, weights, running, Pilates or anything that gets you body moving everyday. I love to play Netball and walk. Walking clears my head, gives me time to listen to podcasts or be with friends. It also doesn’t have to cost anything, get out in nature, put on a YouTube exercise video, run around with your kids or put on some music and commit to a 30min dance party. Whatever your do, do it because you love your body and you want to reward it for carrying you through life.
Essential Oils to try: Peppermint inhaled for pre-workout boost. Ice Blue and Copiaba for recovery. Motivate to get you going when you are not feeling up to it.

You have to create daily habits that are not reliant on motivation as it will fade. We can be really motivated to take action for the first week or so but when we start to lack motivation we give up. You have to know why you are making changes and keep it running through your head. Have will power that is so strongly connected to your why that you don’t need motivation.

The next blog will be all about how we create and protect our emotional energy. Until then I hope you move your body today and add in some extra fruit or veg to increase your physical energy. If you got something out of this post I would love a comment below.

Why Host Your Own Class?

When you come to a class hosted my me you will learn all the basics and a little bit about everything but when you host your own I will tailor the class to you. Think of any issue you may have be it sleep, pain, emotions, depression, cleaning, cooking, hormones, kids, teens, skin and I am sure there is an oil for it! I will make sure that I am giving you specific information to help you and your family.

There is something about having me in your home, teaching you all about Essential Oils that is powerful. You can come to a class that is hosted by me and you will learn all the things but there is something special about having your closest friends and family around when learning new information.

When you are in an environment that is comfortable to you, and you have your friends around you and not strangers, you are able to open up more and I am able to help you with your specific needs. When you host a class with me I will spend some time learning about what your individual needs are prior to the class and tailor it to you. This will make the class much more worthwhile and it really sets you on a better path for natural health and well being.

I bring everything required for the set up and DIY items. I provide you and your guests samples of the oils (as long as I have a guest list in enough time) before the class so everyone can have an experience first. I will also give you a recipe ebook and oils to cook up some delicious items if you would like. You do not need a picture perfect home or an incredible space. You just need a room that your friends can be in. I have taught classes in lounge rooms, kitchens, empty rooms with pillows on the floor, in women’s circles or outside in nature. There is really no rules or requirements, whatever feels good to you!

In my experience I have found people who host their own classes use their oils more often and have a better understanding of what to do when they get them. There is something about remembering what I said while in your home that is much more powerful than coming to a regular event.

In addition to this when you get your friends on board you have someone who is close to you to talk about essential oils with and this provides more opportunity for use and discovery. If they also host their own class that you can then go to it also deepens your knowledge. The more classes you attend, remembering that I make them different for each host, the more information you will obtain and the more often you will get use from your oily purchase.

The bonus of this is also that you are rewarded for referring your friends. The rewards can be oily if you just love living the natural health lifestyle or they can be monetary if you are loving sharing them with your friends and family. This is something that I would have a discussion with you about after the class has finished or in the days following.

I host classes for free for all people who are new to doTERRA. If you think you would be interested in hosting your very own class then please contact me via the contact page and we will get you all booked in! I travel all around Australia. If you are not in Australia we can book in an online class with just you and your friends until I am able to make the trip to you.

If you already have essential oils then I urge you to contact the person who you purchased them through to teach you more. If this is not possible then I am able to run classes for you at a cost depending on where you are located and what you would like. Please contact me to find out more.

Looking forward to hearing from each and everyone of you as everyone needs to learn this information. I am so passionate about this information and I truly believe that it is something that is for everyone!

Vegan Cinnamon Fruit Pancakes

My kids love pancakes! They would have them everyday if I could be bothered making them! I was a sick of making the same egg, flour and milk pancakes so I decided to mix it up a bit!

These ended up unintentionally being vegan which is a bonus for those of you who don’t eat any animal products. You could easily adapt this recipe with what fruit you have laying about. I used apple, banana and strawberries but you could substitute for pear and blueberries or raspberry and plum (although they would be red). You can also use whatever milk and flour you would normally use. As they don’t contain any eggs they are a great allergy friendly lunchbox snack or for afternoon tea when you have other kids over.

These are also great for bubbas who are starting to eat finger food. You can make them in a small size for them and even pack them for when you are out and about. They also freeze well if you wanted to make a larger batch to have some on hand when you can’t be bothered making lunch or snacks! If you are making them for bubs under 1 I would advise not to put the strawberries on top unless they are used to chewing them within food.

Cinnamon Fruit Pancakes
Ingredients

1 banana
1 apple
Chopped strawberries for top
220g flour (I use GF flour but any plain flour will work)
200g coconut milk (I use carton coco quench organic coconut milk but any milk will work)
1/2 tsp bicarb soda
1 drop Cinnamon Essential Oil (doTERRA only)
Oil or fat of choice for frying
Maple syrup or honey for serving

Method
1. Add cored apple into thermomix or high powered blender and chop speed 5 10 sec
2. Add banana and mix speed 4 10 sec or until mixed with apple
3. Add all other ingredients and mix speed 4 20 sec or until well combined
4. Heat oil or fat of choice in fry pan and add spoon fulls of mixture into fry pan
5. Add strawberries or other chopped fruit onto top
6. Flip once bubbles start to appear – cook through as desired
7. Serve with maple syrup or honey

Would love to hear what you think if you make them! Drop a comment below or tag me on Instagram @tribe.for.life

DIY My First Deodorant

My son is 8 and he has started his pre-puberty transition which means the hair on his legs is starting to grow, he is growing taller, he is tired a lot of the time and he is starting to get pretty bad body odor. (recipe at the end of this blog)

We decided it was time for him to start wearing deodorant but there is no way that I would be allowing him to wear toxic antiperspirants from the supermarket. There are a few reasons for this, first of all he is 8 years old and doesn’t need to be adding additional toxicity for his system to deal with when it is already going through drastic bodily changes. Additionally there are a few ingredients that I avoid in all products:

Triclosan: this is a chemical ingredient used in many antibacterial personal care products. Studies have shown that it can have detrimental effects on our health including hormone and endocrine disruption. It can cause problems with the thyroid and create a reduction in bacterial resistance and an increase in allergies. (ABC News). It has been found in breast milk, human tissue and is one of the most common chemicals found in our waterways. It is banned in many countries and is even being phased out in the US due to health concerns. Not something I want on myself let alone my developing 8 year old.

Fragrance: artificial fragrances have been shown to cause headaches, asthma, allergies dizziness, migraines, hay fever, rashes, congestion and they are only the immediate effects. Long term effects are only now starting to be discovered. Companies use chemical make-ups to create an artificial scent as it is cheaper than using high quality essential oils. It is also easier to create a consistent product with artificial scents but the health issues caused from that are immense and many not yet discovered.

Aluminium: If you do some research on aluminium in deodorant you will find so much conflicting information and actually you will find that the cancer council, Alzheimer association and many other health groups advocate for it’s safety. I do however find it interesting that the first thing that breast cancer patients are told is to get rid of their aluminium filled deodorant. I am thankful for the work that these associations do for public heath however I also know they get a lot of their money from big companies so some of the research they do can be biased to those who have a vested interest. I am not willing for myself or my child to be the guinea pig and until they can prove that it is safe when used daily for over 50 years I am not willing to use it. The research in rats with prolonged aluminium use is clear and although we are not injecting it to our systems I do know that my skin is not a fool proof barrier for chemicals and I will not put anything on the skin that I am not willing to have in my blood stream.

Antiperspirant deodorants clog your pores and prevent sweating. Sweating is the bodies natural method of detoxification and in today’s world, when our bodies are constantly dealing with toxins I want to give it the best chance of getting rid of it. My 8 year old does not need to learn that sweating, a natural bodily function, is something to be ashamed of. Absolutely as he gets older he may make different choices but at 8 is is completely unnecessary.

It is up to you and your family to make decisions about what you choose to put on your bodies. I want to urge you to do your research and not just from large companies and corporations. Have a look at what they have banned in European countries and ask yourself why they would do that if it was safe? Question things and be curious – we don’t have to believe everything we are told. I promise you these big companies won’t be there with you and your family when they are sick and suffering. You are the only person who can be an advocate for your own health. So do the research and don’t be their testing bunny!

DIY Kids Deodorant
Ingredients
A spray bottle of any kid (I use an empty Verage toner bottle)
2-10 drops Lavender
2-10 drops Tea Tree
2 tbs witch hazel
Distilled water

Method
1. Add witch hazel and essential oils into the spray bottle and top with distilled water
2. Give a good shake before use
**You can start with a lower amount of essential oils and up it if it is not effective. I find currently for my very active 8 year old I use 6 drops of each, also ensure you are using correct dilution for the age of the child.

I hope you choose to make some natural choices for you and your children.

Cleaning your Diffuser

Check out those diffusers! They were in much need of a good clean! Your diffusers will only work effectively when they are clean and the water is able to filter through with ease. When they get clogged with thick oils, coconut oil or general nasties in your water they will stop pushing out the vapor of your oils.

You can tell when they need to be cleaned as they will not run dry. They will still have water in the bottom of them when they switch themselves off. You can also see the discoloration inside. You should clean your diffusers once a month or more if any of the above occur.

How to clean your diffuser
Requirements

Diffuser
1 tbs of white vinegar
1/4 cup of water
2-10 drops of Lemon
Cloth or paper towel

Method
In an empty diffuser add the white vinegar and water
Run the diffuser for a minimum of 5 minutes
Pour the liquid out of the diffuser
Add 2 drops of Lemon essential oil and wipe around with a clean cloth or paper towel
*If the discoloration is still there add a couple of drops of lemon to your cloth and wipe again

The vinegar will clear out the inside of your diffuser from oil blockages and the lemon will clean the stains. You will notice the difference once you run your diffuser again!

Add the next clean to the calendar so you don’t forget! Nothing worse than wasting precious essential oils because your diffuser is not clean and therefore not working at it’s optimum level.

Supercharged Cacao to Start your Day

Have you ever tried starting your day off with supercharged cacao or bulletproof coffee? It took me a while to work out a recipe that I liked and that felt good in my belly but now I have found it I drink it almost every day.

The reason they are so good for you is that it’s jam-packed with nutrients that are easily digested in the morning on an empty stomach. They have a high amount of healthy fats which is great for our brains and assist in kickstarting your metabolism. There can be a wide range of other benefits as well depending on what you choose to add into it.

It is not just a drink for the morning. I will often have one around that min morning or 3 pm slump when I need a little pick me up. I also find that it really fills me up due to the healthy fat content and therefore leaves me satisfied until my next meal.

You will find the recipe below or on a downloadable pdf but I just want to take you through my favourtie brands I use (not sponsored).

Milk: I love to use pure harvest organic coconut milk. It has no added sugars or fillers and makes for a deliciously creamy drink. You could also use pure harvest almond milk or organic cows milk. Any milk of your choosing will work in this recipe but the higher the fat content the creamer and frothier result you will get.

Raw cacao: Not all cacao was created equally. You want to look for one that is raw and pure. You can also get ceremony cacao which is particularly delicious. Different brands will have different flavours and strengths so it may be trial and error to see how much you need. Generally, anywhere between 1/2-1 teaspoon is great!

Collagen powder: I use Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty powder. They also have a build and a body one but I have been working specifically on the health of my hair and skin. Your local health food shop will have a range of different ones. Just be sure you are finding one that is organic and has no artificial fillers added. https://nutraorganics.com.au/collections/collagen-gelatin

Mushroom powder: These are great to add to your drink as they have so many health benefits. Different mushrooms will help to target specific areas of your health so I recommend doing some research. I use the brand Teelixir as they are certified organic and are very well priced. Chaga and Cordyceps are my favourites however my husband tends to prefer Reishi. They have some great bundles and sample packs on their website for you to try. https://teelixir.com/

Coffee: I tend to use Republica organic decaf instant coffee as I love the taste and its super convenient. You can use whatever coffee you would normally use. If you like to have an espresso then reduce the amount of milk so that it will still fit into your cup.

MCT oil: MCT oil is a type of coconut oil where the long chains have been taken out so it will not solidify. It will stay as a liquid form and is full of good fats. This is great for your brain health as well as your gut. I don’t use a specific brand but I always look for one that is organic and pure. You can get this as your local health food store and it is starting to make its way to large supermarket chains.

Essential Oils*: These add a delicious flavour to your drink as well as so many additional health and emotional benefits. I love to use Ginger and Pink Pepper in mine but there are so many combinations to try. You can make a chai type blend with cinnamon and Cardamon and Tumeric or brighten it up with Wild Orange to make it like a Jaffa. Have fun with it and experiment! Remember the oils smell very strong in the bottle so may taste different from the smell. You will only ever need one drop of each or less than a drop if you are using many. You can put a toothpick in the top and then swirl it in your drink if you are only after a hint of flavour.

*I would only ever recommend using doTERRA essential oils for food flavouring. The essential oil industry is not regulated and therefore many oils you purchase will be filled with synthetic chemicals that you do not want in your body. If you wish to purchase oils and are not currently working with anyone please feel free to contact me and I will set you up.

Supercharged Cacao Recipe

Ingredients
1 cup of coconut milk (or milk of choice)
1 tsp raw cacao
1 serve of Collagen powder

Swimming Protocol

Chlorine is such a harsh chemical, I understand the necessity for it in our swimming pools but I am also well aware what is does to our bodies. My kids have always been very sensitive to chlorine. They used to get sick as soon as lessons would start, their skin would become dry and itchy and their gut health would decline triggering undesirable behaviour. I wasted so much money on lessons they couldn’t attend until I learnt how best to counteract the effects of chlorine on their system.

Here are some of the things I have been doing:

Getting the chlorine off: It is super important to get the chlorine off their skin as soon as possible. I don’t let my kids swim and then go off and do something for the rest of the day. If possible it is best to rinse them off at the pool. We only live around the corner so I take them straight home and they get in the shower. Use a really gentle natural soap such as castile or coconut soap. If you are using a soap with fragrances you are adding additional toxins to their already overloaded system.

Detoxing: If time is permitted I take them straight out of the shower and into an Epsom and Magnesium salt bath for 20 min. If not then definitively the next day. I will always add 2 drops of Tea Tree and 2 drops of Lavender to help the detoxification process. It is great if you can give your kids a detox bath 2-3 times a week when they are swimming weekly.

Vitamin C: Chloramine is the chemical that attaches itself to skin and hair after swimming. It is not able to be washed away by showering which is why you may smell chlorine in the days following swimming. It is extremly harmful to the human body and as it comes out of the skin (through sweat and opening of pours) it can cause skin irritations and dryness. Any child with eczema needs to have a plan to rid themselves of chloramines after swimming to reduce flare ups. Vitamin C neutralises chloramines in the body as will as boosting immunity. I use Metagentics vitamin C as I trust it to be a pure source. My kids have it mixed in with water once a day in the 3 days following lessons.

Multi-Vitamin: To help to boost immunity during swimming times my kids all take a multi vitamin. We use doTERRA kids A-Z chewable as I trust it as a pure source of nutrients. Please seek advice from a health care professional when choosing vitamins as there are lots on the market that are full of things I wouldn’t want my kids to have. Feel free to contact me if you would like some assistance in choosing one but I highly recommend doTERRA.

Pro-biotic: To restore the good bacteria back into my kids guts they have daily pro-biotics. I use one recommended by our naturopath to suit the needs of my kids. I highly recommend seeking assistance with choosing one with the correct bacteria’s.

Skin Barrier: I don’t use a barrier on my kids as the pool doesn’t allow it in the water however if you child is very sensitive or has extreme eczema I would recommend approaching your center or getting a letter from your doctor. You can coat the skin with a barrier cream such as coconut oil, shea butter or another thick moisteriser. It is great to add vitamin C powder to it to reduce chloramines as well as essential oils.

Post swim mosteriser: Lather your kids in a good quality moisteriser or oil after bath/shower with essential oils and/or vitamin C powder to cleanse the skin.

Essential Oils: I add immune boosting oils to their daily oily routine during swimming seasons. The kids have the kids Stronger blend or a mix of On Guard and fractionated coconut oil on the soles of their feel and down the spine at least once a day. They also get to choose one or two other oils to apply each day. I let them choose because kids intuition is amazing at knowing what their bodies need.

Water: Make sure they have plenty of filtered water before and after swimming to help flush their system. I know it sounds pretty simple but it can be very easy for kids to not be having enough water.

I hope some of those tips come in handy for you during the swimming season! They can be applied to both kids and adults. Let me know below if you have any other great tips and whether any of these worked for you.

Much love

Foaming Hand Wash

Foaming hand is one of the easiest swaps you can make to help reduce the toxins in you home. It requires only 4 ingredients and one of those things is water! It is also super cheap!

Supermarket hand washes contain ingredients that can disrupt our hormonal systems, damage our cells and cause issues with our organs. In addition to this every chemical we wash down the drain is damaging our environment and adding to the environmental issues that our generation is currently faced with. Ingredients that I choose to avoid are Triclosan, Parabens, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrance, Ethyl Alcohol (Ethanol), 1,4-Dioxane, Propylene Glycol, Propylene Oxide, Polyethylene Glycol, Diethanolamine (DEA), Ureas and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

These are all ingredients that are found in most personal care products such as Shampoo and Conditioner, moisteriser, shaving cream, hair gel, body wash, deodorants, hand sanitisers and hand wash. I have been slowly swapping out all my personal care products for natural choices or DIY items. Since swapping out all the toxic products I found that my period returned to normal, the weight around my middle dropped off without doing anything additional, my hair and skin look much better, my gut health improved and I have way less mood swings. It is shocking how much of what we put onto our bodies is effecting our internal system. Your skin is your largest organ and whatever you put onto it goes directly into your blood stream. In some places, such as your feet, it only takes 20 seconds to enter your system. If you rub garlic onto the soles of your feet you will be able to taste it in your mouth in 20 seconds. This should be a wake up call for anyone who doesn’t believe what we put on ourselves effects our bodies.

I urge you to take a look at what is in your hand wash and do some investigation into some of the ingredients and decide if you still want to use it for you an your family.

If you would like to make your own hand wash here is what you need:
Foaming hand wash dispenser
2 tbs castile soap
1 tbs fractionated coconut oil
10 drops of essential oil of choice
Distilled or cool boiled water

Method
Combine castile soap, fractionated coconut oil and essential oils into dispenser. Top with dilstiled or cool boiled water.

Essential Oil combinations to try:
On Guard and Wild Orange
Peppermint and Tea Tree
Lemon and Lime
Grapefruit and Spearmint
Green Mandarin and Ylang Ylang

I hope you make the choice to make some simple swaps for your families health.
